Homemade Baking Mix

Liz LuscombComment

I was in need of some Bisquick the other day and had none in the cupboard.  Sound like a situation you've been in before?
I knew that this stuff was easy to make, I just never wanted to make time to prepare it.  However, circumstances made it necessary.

I had already had everything cooked for our pot pie except that I didn't have the Bisquick topping for it, so I gathered what I thought would be good ingredients and threw them in a big bowl.
Surprisingly, it came out really good.  I mean, really, really, good.  In fact, it was so tasty with the pot pie stuffing I made; I've decided to venture out and make a breakfast pot pie using this mix.

Any way, our taste buds may not be the same as yours, but if you give it a try, let me know how it comes out for you.

6 cups all purpose flour
1/2 cup baking powder
1-1/4 teaspoon of cream of tartar
1 generous cup of dry milk
1/4-1/2 cup, cold, salted butter

What To Do
Mix all the dry ingredients together in a large mixing bowl.
Once the ingredients are well incorporated, cut in you super cold butter, and mix around with your fingers until little peas begin to form.

That's it!
If you're wanting to make a drop biscuit topping for a pot pie (this will be more spreadable), then use 1 and 3/4 cup of mix and 2/3 cup of water.  Extra water if needed.
